Capturing the Wonders of Space

I’m fortunate to have two deep-space imaging rigs – here’s the details of the equipment I use to gather the data, and the software I use to process that data into the images you see on the site.

Rig One - Main Nebula Rig

This setup is my "workhorse". With a focal length of just over 400mm and light enough to carry outside to my permanent pier setup without giving me a hernia it is my weapon of choice for the majority of my clear nights

Rig Two - Bigger and Deeper!

My secondary rig features a 1000mm focal length scope with a small sensor camera - perfect for capturing galaxies and smaller cosmic objects. It's a much heavier setup, so can only be used on the pier mounted EQ6, not my smaller more portable HEQ5 mount. Eventually I'd like to have both scopes on permanent piers - but that's probably going to have to wait for a house move!

Software - Control and Processing

Here’s some of the software that I use to aid with image acquisition – and also the tools that I use to process that raw data into the images displayed on this site.
