I’ve often joked that astrophotography is a lot like doing tech support in the dark…
Producing this image certainly felt like that. Some nights everything just works and it’s magical, but most nights are plagued with problems and stuff that needs tweaking.
I was hoping that this image of The Veil Nebula would be the product of about 4 hours of data, but a bunch of irksome issues (not least of which was me dozing off on the sofa instead of monitoring things!!) lead to this session only producing 65 minutes worth of usable exposures! I have now invested in an electronic automatic focus unit – which brings me a step closer to complete automation of my setup!
It’s certainly a target I’ll revisit!
